Terrain

A digital terrain model is usually used for grand scenes – it might sound weird, but there are usually not more than 300 walk-ons acting in the biggest battle scenes, still the viewer sees tens of thousands of warriors crashing into each others weapons.

The trick is that those hundreds of virtual actors are copied and spread over the field to create the effect of a dense crowd. For the realistic impression of real people walking on real ground every little rock needs to be in it’s place.
